Brave Pet of the Month for May is ....... Teddy!

Teddy was brought into our Gabalfa surgery by South Wales Police, after a disagreement between him and his brother had got out of hand. They had being playing with a ball in the garden when the rough and tumble suddenly became serious;Teddy’s owner tried to intervene but unfortunately got bitten in the process. So, Teddy was brought to us by the police, whilst his Dad was taken to A&E.
On arrival in Gabalfa Teddy was in shock, and unable to place any weight through his left front leg. He had many bite and puncture wounds over his face and legs, as well as bruising in his mouth.
We immediately gave him intravenous fluid therapy to stabilise his heart rate and blood pressure; as well as strong pain relief and antibiotics.
His left front leg was so swollen and painful we were concerned a fracture may have been present but x-rays weren’t possible straight away due to how poorly Teddy was.
By the next morning Teddy was feeling a little better; he was starting to use the left front leg much more and over the coming days the swelling was markedly reducing.
4 days later Teddy was ready to go home with his Dad, on a course of oral antibiotics and pain relief. He was a pleasure to have in the hospital, and was a model patient throughout. He didn’t tell us off once, even with repeated examinations and cleaning of his wounds daily!
Teddy has been back to visit us three times and his wounds have healed very very well, and he is still a happy boy to come and see the team!
We think Teddy was exceptionally brave during his treatment and always a very sweet boy who is very well deserved recipient of our Brave Pet Award!!
